The GO-GN Scholarship Programme

Background

The GO-GN scholarship programme is aimed at GO-GN members who are doctoral researchers working on open education topics and our alumni. The scheme is an opportunity to apply for funding to support research, conferences and post-doctoral activities.

What is the GO-GN scholarship programme?

The GO-GN scholarship programme, which launched February 2024, will:

  • Be a competitive process.
  • Be open to applications at any time, with applications reviewed at set points (see timetable below).
  • Enable GO-GN members and alumni to apply for funding up to a maximum of $1500 (USD) total.
  • Offer scholarships up to six months maximum in duration.

What does the GO-GN scholarship programme support?

Scholarship proposals could include support for:

  • Presenting your research at a regional or international conference.
  • Fostering connections to other networks.
  • Producing an overview of OER activity in a region.
  • Promotion of GO-GN at face-to-face conferences and online events.
  • Strategic events identification.
  • New GO-GN member recruitment.
  • Undertaking a piece of targeted OER/OEP-related research (alumni only).

Please note that the scholarship scheme is unable to support doctorate costs such as fees, materials, fieldwork directly connected to your doctorate or equipment.

All successful applicants will be expected to report back on their scholarship activities, as appropriate. Successful applicants will be expected to produce agreed outputs during or after their scholarship (e.g. a blog post report on a conference, a report on OER activity or their research). GO-GN supports open research and dissemination. We anticipate that all scholarship outputs will be openly shared and therefore of wider benefit to the network and other communities.

How will GO-GN support successful applicants?

In addition to financial support, we will agree together what kind of support might be useful for your scholarship. For example, if you are presenting at a conference, you may want to practice your paper beforehand, to obtain feedback from the network. If you are working on a longer piece of work, you might find a series of meetings with GO-GN team members useful during your scholarship, at appropriate points. If your scholarship will produce a short report, the GO-GN team can also support its production through feedback and review.

The Process

You can apply for a GO-GN scholarship at any time by using this form.

As part of the application process, you will need to answer a few questions and provide a budget for the scholarship. If you are seeking conference funding support, please remember that we can also consider partial requests for conferences in instances where your department or other source(s) can cover some costs.

If you have any questions, please contact: gogn.oer [at] gmail.com
